The pigs are all gone at Capaum Pond Road (except for those down the road). And a relic carriage sits idle in the barn. The muddy duck splash became a cement pond with steps, and warm buttermilk has given way to bone-dry gin martinis, gently stirred. The owner posed a challenge to create separate spaces for kids, adults, and guests, with the feeling of a singular, well-integrated composition.
There was no room for anything, but working with the Zoning Enforcement Officer, getting creative with the Building Inspector in interpreting fence requirements, and massaging things through the ever-difficult Historic District Commission, we put in a good sized pool, realigned the driveway for a gracious entry that actually works, and open gardens for everyday cut flowers. Now the owner tells us we succeeded hands down.
