Cape and Islands

On a broad hillside with ocean views, Greenleaf Road evolved from a sandlot to a rolling garden. The program called for outdoor dining and entertainment spaces. For privacy and greater interest, we set them apart from a Jacuzzi spa perched on the hill. Masses of new shrubs, trees, and meadows of native grasses informally separate the areas. Working with natural grades, we provided distinct settings and additional privacy from neighbors. The spa offers unexpected geometry: a circle set against an oval and pushed against another oval, this site has hidden qualities to discover over time.

Stone Paths & Steps

Subtle but effective retaining walls and plantings shortly after construction. Today this setting is shrouded by mature plantings and has attained the intended privacy and sense of discovery.

Nestled in the Hillside

Out of the wind and private, this spa is a circle pushed up against an oval, bound by another circle. Set among flowering shrubs, it’s never boring.

Subtle but Distinct Signals

Different levels and degrees of enclosure in the landscape relate to different uses inside the house, views outside, and means of access.
