Douglas Way
When the house at the top of the hill spawned a cottage, we were brought in to create a meaningful place in between. The pergola offers a gateway to the wilds and anchors the view from the drive and garden entry. Tall shrubs and hedges create a sequential transition from semi-public spaces to the private inner sanctum. Recently rehired after thirteen years, we redesigned the property for multi-generational parties. This created a better use of space for the evolving family. It also accounts for the house addition with better privacy. Rolling lawn terraces slope down to a grassy play field supported by a fieldstone retaining wall. This gives a clean and inviting foreground to the harbor views. In collaboration with Chip Webster Architecture, Blue Claw Associates Landscaping, Tom Gilroy Electric. Concept through construction - total landscape project costs: ~ $160k in 2000
